And call for submissions! Here’s the project details:

A few years ago, I had planned on covering a bunch of my favorite songs for an end of year comp, but only ever got around to covering one Postal Service song (Brand New Colony), so decided this year I wanted to put together another one, but all covers by my friends. It’s better as a collaboration, so everyone picks their own songs! And it doesn’t really matter whether or not you play music, you can just sing it a cappella, which is fun, too.

Our December 7th deadline is fast approaching so if you have an itch to sing a song and record it, send it to me and I’ll throw it on the “tape.”

When your song is done, send me these things with it (optional, mind you):

an mp3 of the original song
a top 10 list of other songs/albums
your address

We’re going to do several covers, as long as I get artwork for them. I have two covers designed; here’s one of them that I printed with the new Gocco printer:

I’m excited about this project, and was telling Owl that it basically forces all my friends that love to record and sing and do music stuff to do something with (relatively) little effort. AND we all get to see what we’ve been listening to for the past year, which is always a good way to stay connected to people you know and love.

tim, I am witness to the whole getting your friends to record something bit. It has been so fun to see Josh get excited about this! It’s like a fun flashback to before, when Josh and I were just “coworkers” and you guys put on that show in his apartment in Rochester. It is cheesy, but THAT is the Josh I had a devastating crush on. So yeah, thanks.

good! i’m glad josh is actually getting something recorded. i’m getting the same feeling from brandon, who has sent me previews of his songs!

i got another song in the works: jens lekman. i hope everyone is getting theirs done this weekend!

Whoa WHoa Whoa. Where did you get a Gocco???? I cant find those things anywhere! i thought they stopped making them.

  4. tim Says:

craigslist! also, there are places that still sell them online. i think they just re-started production as well because demand has been so high.

Oh man, I wish I had recording equipment and I would do one too! Next time? When your helpful equipment is near?

Sign me up for a copy though.

  6. Longball Says:

Amieable and I can contribute a Bee Gees duet. Of course, my part may sound like a choir of dying cats.

  7. amieable Says:

It’s really amazing how one single voice can sound like a whole CHOIR of dying cats.

  8. tim Says:

go get a mac! that’s all the equipment you need!

  9. Longball Says:

I JUST bought a new PC and now i realize that without knowing it, i may have destroyed any chance i had to be a star.

  10. josh Says:

Oh come on! PC’s are totally tops! I looked at one the other day and it was like “err err err!” that was great! Oh wait is that my wife talking about how she doesn’t have a crush on me anymore again, that sucks! I totally have a big crush on her, mostly because she knows how to handle a PC, I can’t even fathom that! She is like hella smart!

[...] Another day, another song from the mix tape. I’m in the process of tracking down some CD sleeves for this thing, and I’m not having much luck. It’ll happen though, and soon. We went to Pearl in SoHo the other day to get a bunch of Gocco stuff and I dropped a wad of (plastic) cash on ink and screens, so we’re half-way there. [...]
