Still Flyin’
The show last night was good, but not as good as the show at the Knitting Factory. This, however, was all topped by the amazing awesomeness that was the after-party at Sound Fix, where Still Flyin’ played for a good hour and the house was packed — And everyone was moving. I don’t know if I’ll ever see a Williamsburg room moving like that to music that happy. Probably one of the funnest shows I’ve ever been to. That’s right, I said it. Mark it down, because if they ever come around and play a small, cramped space and fit all 15 or so of them on stage (that’s three trumpets, two saxophones, four or five various percussionists, guitar, bass, drums, keys, and somebody else that plays a box — i hear he’s the band guru) again, it’ll be amazing. The Lucksmiths boys, especially Tali, was jumping up and bouncing around and whistling the whole time, too.
Still Flyin’ also played a sing-along of the honky tonk classic, Drinkin’ Bone.
You probably can’t tell in this picture, but everyone is on a knee.

still flyin’ was kickin’, it’s true, and i was so entertained watching Tali jump around–at one point he was jumping into handstands on a table. awesome.
but i’m sorry, nothing beats a lucksmiths concert. NOTHING, i tell you. (i’m sorry, bmp, i know you’re already pretty upset about missing this tour..) the hilarious, intelligent on-stage banter, Tali’s facial expressions when someone misses a note, (or verse!) the energy at the beginning of t-shirt weather… and all those songs that touch on all the emotions you’ve ever felt… sigh. two nights in a row was not enough.
i think i’ll move to australia.

I AM upset. That description of the show TOTALLY captures a Lucksmiths show, and I am VERY frustrated that I haven’t been able to see them on their last few tours. Fortunately, attending a Rockies vs. Padres one-game-playoff Rockies win somewhat offsets not being able to see the Lucksmiths. Best BASEBALLZ game EVAR.
