Barcade and a Tangential Aside on Project Runway
That place is great. Last weekend when J&R were in town we went to the Cubana Cafe for some more good eats. The pork there is so damn tasty, I can’t even stand it, and the elote is a great appetizer. On Saturday we went over to Barcade in Williamsburg and I finally had some good beer and played a lot of old-school video games. I kept shoving quarter into Smash TV, even though I couldn’t hear the best part, the sound. If you come visit, we must go there, but we have to go early to avoid an infestation of hipsters because it is in Williamsburg.
Saw J&B on Sunday, which was fun. We went over to Bite and Washington Square Park where there was a freakshow going on. In writing this, I’m finding I have very little to say about all this, other than that it was fun.
Incidentally, my Barcade visit was my first time in Williamsburg, and other than the fact that everyone was either my age or younger (slightly older?), there were no people that had babies or old Italian women walking on the street, it didn’t seem so bad. I did, however, spend a limited amount of time on the street, if only to go to the bo-de-ga to get some beer, of which I didn’t even buy any, and less prime-time in the bar.
I also handed in my first paper this week, which was a Grant Proposal for a Historical Chinese Film Collection. I’ve never written a grant proposal before, and if you ever find yourself in that situation and needing ASAP to learn how, go visit The Foundation Center, which is based here in NY, but is a wealth of resources meant to support non-profits and help philanthropic people be, well, philanthropic. I actually applied for a job there, but probably priced myself out of it. I hate it when they ask how much salary you’re looking for.
Oh, yeah, we finally got internet and cable at home, which is a godsend. I don’t mean to be so dramatic about it, but if you knew how many times a day I’m used to checking my e-mail, blogs, news, music, and basically answering any question that pops in my head, then you’d understand.
Not to mention that the new fall lineup is starting and Project Runway is almost over. One more episode! (We missed this week’s, because the Tivo messed up, but we think Tivo will catch a repeat today, and perhaps Alison (not Owl) will magically appear and become one of the final three (despite the fact that she most certainly didn’t appear at Fashion Week, unless Gothamist was lying). But seriously, how many people actually thought Angela and Vincent were more talented designers than her?
PS Harvey, you should have come up, because all we did was play video games. Next time. We can finish Smash TV together.

we’ll cuff our tight jeans, put on our stunna shades and roll down there to whoop some hipster videogame ass.

i’m hoping that Jeffrey will get his face unzipped and that underneath will be Alison (not Owl) who should be at the Fashion week.

I read in the NYC Metro today that there’s some controversy about whether or not jeff hired extra help to finish his line at fashion week. (cue revelatory music: DUN DUN DUNNNNNN!)

Jeffrey should totally be there. His stuff, while sometimes hideous, at least takes risks. Alison should be there too. Let’s kick off the baby machine and get Alison back! Tim, glad to see you are into PR. It’s my fave show. When are you coming back to Seattle?

you’re right, jeff makes some good clothes. his couture thing deserved to win, but his whole pick on angela’s mom thing was sickening and he’s a huge asshole, even though angela very much sucks, too. michael is certainly the good-guy to cheer for, i think (kind of like the hippies on Amazing Race 9).
i’m never coming back to seattle, not for lack of want, but more for lack of money. maybe november?

dude, you’re such a girl! project runway? really? not that i should talk, but at least i gave up on gilmore girls last year finally.
once again, everybody (even my mom) watches a show that i guess i’m missing out on. at least i’m watching battlestar galactica
