On the road

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004

uh, i’m gonna be on the road for the next 12 hours, and then i don’t know what’s going to happen. i spent all this time creating a page for the playlist and looking for tons of songs, but then all of the sudden i don’t have the time to upload them because it takes too long. i’m still gonna try, though.

hope everyone is enjoying their holidays. i hope we don’t get stuck in the snow.

Excuses

Thursday, December 16th, 2004

apologies for errant posting. after having spent two hours cleaning all the weblogs in the ir realm of comment spam (upwards of 1000+ all together), i was pretty sick of dealing with all the shit. oh, and i have no regular internet access save for the wi-fi at the coffee shop a few blocks away, and being as i tried to conserve money to get some people christmas presents (it didn’t work out too well), and most of my time being consumed by some web work… well, i have plenty of excuse. eat it.

tomorrow i’ll have a playlist, though, brandon. friday playlist. i promise.

p.s. the mariners signed sexson and beltre. i’m afraid sexson will get hurt and beltre will return to sub .300 hitting status in the confines of safeco (and trying to learn how the national league works). but at least they signed someone, right? they couldn’t have gotten beltran for that much, right?

Remaindered Links

Monday, December 6th, 2004

lots of collected links over the weekend. california consisted of: two donated couches to the salvation army, one fully loaded truck, four or so free meals (thanks, kathy and joel!), one movie (the incredibles! again), lots of (free, people take pity on me because i’m poor) coffee, and a new catch phrase: “you take it, then you americanize it!”

-karl rove and his plans for world domination are absolutely terrifying. i’m curious as to what kind of game plan the dems will form to this, i supposing the new dnc chair will give us the answers.

-there was a huge mistake in exit polls that shows thanks to nbc. turns out, latino voters did NOT support bush like they thought they did. thank god for that, but too little too late now. i’m focusing on the future. shouldn’t we all?

-here’s another list of companies that are blue, i’ve been checking both from time to time. if you run into any discrepancies, let me know so we can figure out what’s really going on. i’m gonna be pretty annoying this holiday season when it comes to buying and receiving. “is it blue? no? i’m not shopping there and don’t buy me anything from there.” maybe i get no presents this year. but it’s all for the great good, right? right guys? another fun java app(thanks, veej!) for cellphones with internet access (like blackberries and crap) is the red | blue app “to provide you an accurate reading of the political leanings of your surroundings”. technology rules. take that fuckers!

-there’s an article in the boston globe about left wing monopolies on campus that is just retarded.

the article here seems to be inferring detrimental hiring practices, as if colleges are hiring only liberal professors to their university and ONLY based on their position on the political spectrum. this may or may not be true, but certainly can’t be proven with the “evidence” that he’s invoking. it’s called “ex-post facto statistical analysis”, just because 166 professors at cornell are liberal and six conservative doesn’t mean that the school is promoting a liberal agenda. it’s a possibility, but then again, it’s also a possibility that aliens have visited the planet. it’s a terrible argument.

also misleading is the fact that every city that was picked is in an overwhelmingly blue state or region, two colleges from california, two from new york, and boulder, colorado, the epicenter for liberals in colorado. is that a causual relationship? is it possible the professors were picked because the town is liberal, or is it possible the town is liberal because those professors were picked? without enough data, it’s not possible to determine.

but then again, this is a dumbass editorial article by a hack journalist, not a sociological study.

-now, on to less political stuff, everyone knows that wes anderson loves the futura, but for you typography heads, here’s a little list of print used in other movies and grades them on anachronisms.

i got back to seattle yesterday and am now sitting at zoka coffee drinking some damn fine coffee (not free, but i have a little cash now, thanks to some super-secret web design funds, thanks brl), in fact, the best i’ve had in seattle for a while now, and catching up on some email before i go back to owl’s new apartment and eat a couple of vegan donuts and to check on the cats, who have gone freakin’ crazy since we brought them there last night. anyone interested in indie rock christmas songs? post ‘em if you got ‘em.
