pentagon angered byÝphotos from military mortuary.

“Quite frankly, we don’t want the remains of our service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice to be the subject of any kind of attention that is unwarranted or undignified,” said John Molino, a deputy undersecretary of defense.

the official site at thememoryhole.org is down at the moment, either /.’d or maybe pentagon threatened to deport the guy, but you can catch a quick glimpse of what it looked like through the google cache.

if anything, the thin veneer of “respect towards servicemen” is rather insulting. they did the same thing in desert storm and tried to do it during vietnam. the administration hates bad publicity for their war but it’s a definite lose/lose situation for them all around and this is the best route the could choose. they’re just trying to slow the disintegration of support. liberals will feast on this and conservatives will laud it.

the entire Pedro the lion’s Achilles Heel site is loaded with shit to look at and you can stream (as of today) the first six tracks, and there’s recording notes on all the songs including mic notes for every recorded instrument and voice, which is pretty dope.

the cruch on the guitar of “keep swinging” is sick, man, and the album as a whole (again, at least the first six tracks) strikes me as a lot quirkier than previous albums and much less straight-forward, most definitely compared to it’s hard to find a friend.

thanks to cbs for linking this before me.

here’s some of montreal tour dates. elephant six shows have always been a trip to participate in, the of montreal show i went to a few years back comes in a close second to the olivia tremor control i saw a little while before them. i used to lie to people and say i saw neutral milk hotel before in an effort to solidify my indie cred, but really, i didn’t. but a friend of mine did and i would recount her entire story whenever they were mentioned. the story itself wasn’t that interesting, except for the fact that jeremy barnes ripped it up on drums.

i’ve been digging this of montreal song from their new album, satanic panic in the attic, and will probably pick it up soon. for now, you can listen to it, too: disconnect the dots.

mad sound clips, when you just HAVE to hear something funny from office space.

Yeah, well at least your name isn’t Michael Bolton. You know there’s nothing wrong with that name. There was, nothing wrong with it, until I was about 12 years old and that no talent ass clown became famous and started winning grammys. Well, why don’t you just go by Mike instead of Michaell. No way, why should I change, he’s the one who sucks.

public access television will become obsolete when you have 20 grand burning a hole in your pocket and want to invest in a mobile tv broadcast production box.

i may have failed to mention that i’m not gonna be in town for a little while, but regardless of that fact, when/if i find some free time, i’ll be certain to chime in. this week, i’ve got some great stuff though.

before we left for the northwest, we decided to hit up long beach to check out the aquarium again (since the iron and wine show was sold out, and so was chris ware and ira glass at ucla). we never actually got inside, but we waited in line for at least 2 minutes before we decided we should just go shopping. that led us to belmont shores, where we found a great record store, fingerprints. i subsequently got to great finds, including a live show of iron and wine that was recorded there (which i got for free when i bought our endless numbered days), and a cd from the sea monsters, a great band from long beach, so here’s a few songs that i think are unreleased from iron and wine, and a fine song from the sea monsters album.

iron and wine | he lays in the rains

live at fingerprints (long beach) | 12.06.02

iron and wine | dearest forsaken

live at fingerprints (long beach) | 12.06.02

iron and wine | track 5 (didn’t catch the title)

live at fingerprints (long beach) | 12.06.02

the sea monsters | no silver lining

s/t album | pete records

the sea monsters just finished recording a new one, that should be coming out sometime soon (according to pete records). definitely pick that up if you like that song, the rest of the album is pretty rockin’ too, a surprising northwest indie rock style i’m hearing.

hope everyone’s having a good week so far, i’m on fuckin’ vacation so am trying only to spend downtime/killing time time on the computer. but this sea monsters record is freakin’ nice.

ever since owl’s triathalon i’ve been slacking in the working out department, though i’ve still gotten at least a good half hour of cardio and some weight lifting in twice in the last couple weeks, but i’ve also been inspired to do more, maybe even looking into doing a century ride or, ultimately, the seattle to portland ride. anyways, that’s not the point, the point is, there’s a ton of crazy stuff at /run about running gadgets and whatnot, including a bitchin’ gps wristwatch and some dope socks. geeky.
