baseball season is upon us, and i just stumbled on the seattle weekly’s spotlight on mariner bloggers, as well as the de facto answer to why bavasi, lincoln, and nintendo are bad for the organization, but great for the entertainment-based fans. by that i mean, those that are more concerned with going to the ballpark, guzzling a few beers and shouting obscenities to the opposing teams (or the soccer-mom dan wilson lovefest contingent) instead of those that actually want the team to win.

i doubt many of you would be interested in this though, but seeing as all i’m reading these days are baseball prospectus articles and espn baseball news bits, i figured i’d find post something at least as filler.

while it’s been our sneaking suspicion (since record companies actually study file-sharing habits) that file-sharing boosts records sales, now there’s empirical data.

i have to admit that there’s a certain humor in jokes that are irreverent, but in private, man, and with people who share your humor. i don’t doubt bush makes jokes about not finding wmds in private, but as the president of the united states and to showcase it to media is arrogant and thoughless.

i couldn’t find anything to verify this either on the arclight website or the coffeee and cigarettes site, but blogging.la informs of the following:

Speaking of the Arclight, on April 19th, one of my favourite filmmakers is coming out to do a special engagement Q&A/screening with the director himself. AFI is hosting Jim Jarmusch’s “Coffee an Cigarettes”, “a series of short films disguised as a feature (or maybe vice versa). Each sequence involves several characters just sitting around, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and discussing subjects as diverse as caffeine popsicles, Abbott & Costello, Elvis conspiracy theories, the proper preparation of English tea, the inventions of Nikola Tesla, the fictitious rock band SQRL, Paris in the twenties, and the use of nicotine as an insecticide. The cast is an extremely eclectic group of extraordinary actors and musicians portraying an equally eclectic collection of oddballs, with sequences strikingly photographed in black (coffee) and white (cigarettes) by Frederick Elmes, Robby Mller, Ellen Kuras and Tom DiCillo.

who’s coming with me?

i don’t know why nasa is bothering with a subvocal speech detection system when darpa probably has a mind-reading device somewhere in their closet.

the only problem with a guide to who’s who in the dc universe is figuring out if someone’s even part of the dc universe in the first place. but i guess comic book geeks wouldn’t have a problem with that, some rube would be like, “oh, shit, i wanna know what nightcrawler is married.” and the geek’d be like, “you dumbshit, nightcrawler is MARVEL, not dc, GAWD. worst. comic geek. ever.”

The Full Biography entries include Personal Data on the characters (Alter Ego, Occupation, Marital Status, Known Relatives, Group Affiliation, Base of Operation, Height, Weight, Eyecolor, and Haircolor), as well as a History entry on the character, and descriptions of the characters Powers and Weapons as well as first appearance and creator information.

i’ve been using dragthing for months now, and have found it quite useful, but for some reason haven’t brought myself around to buying it, so i’ll probably trash it and try quicksilver, and if i don’t like it probably go back to dragthing. qs is a lot like launchbar, another short-cut program, except qs is free and opensource.
