this isn’t a love it or leave it, it’s a change it or lose it

i checked that stuff that brl mentioned in the comments yesterday but didn’t find much, there’s a bunch of stuff up at the up above website, but they’re all short clips, the visionaries clips are good though. the typical cats have a website, but nothing up there yet– i think maybe they just registered the domain. over at galapagos there’s a ton of songs that are realaudio, but i don’t have that here at work, so i have to wait until i get home to hear. there is a story about qwel battling eyedea from the rhymesayers crew and losing, but slug being all up in his shit about dropping and trashing his name. chicago’s apparently got a big underground hip hop scene, what with i was born with two tongues, denizen kane (who’s in typical cats) and the pacifics, there’s some tracks from pacifics up at the propagandamovement website: vision and reVision (remix of the first).

another thing i been listening to is the non-prophets track that’s up at their site, called hey bobby. hot.

-chromewaves set up a nice article about kids interpreting and reacting to lucksmiths and from bubblegum to sky tracks. teacher weather! ha! that’s good. that reminds me of owl’s story about one of her kids thinking she was eating cat shoes instead of cashews. go ask her

-ed was good last night, pretty funny. phil stubbs getting action with the principal! best part: stubbs stops, looks all serious and says, “molly, remember, what happens in vegas, stays in vegas.”

-i woke up in some sad, sorry state this morning. i woke up late again, and then it took me only 45 minutes instead of an hour to get to work today. , started thinking that to be taking an hour to get tow rok, i’d have to average 20 miles per hour the whole 20 miles. what a drag.

anyways, i’m going to start a blog that is just complaining about trafic here in l.a. everyday, because i know how entertaining it would be to you folks. end sarcasm. you been checking the bathroom lately? i hope so. weird shit going down there.

-hey remember when everyone yesterday didn’t like baseball? still don’t? SKIP THIS TRACK!
this roster is the shit. with two guns in the outfield and cammie in the middle, it’s an UPGRADE on what was already the best defensive outfield in the league and adds sorely needed left-handed power in the lineup. soriano in the starting totation is interesting, i’m not convinced he will be great as a starter yet, but with the lineup that we get otherwise, i think that’s a valid risk. too bad that shit’s never gonna happen. prove us wrong bavasi!

-oh yeah, weird ass storm yesterday. ali’s school district was in the news. my throat itches so much right now i want to stick my arm in my mouth and scratch it from the inside. i have to settle with coughing up shit and clearing my throat.

i waste my time questioning, drag my heels a bit

right, so if you didn’t hear, the brain and i got a pass on our script, which is balls, fo sho, but then got right up and got solicited for some other such shite like a female thriller. we pitched it and got cock-blocked again. hoo-muthafucking-ray for hollywood.

-i dunno about you, but i think smallville sucks. i think so and ira glass thinks so, so who else is there? the onion av club interviews ira glass and apparently he watches a lot of tv. i’m gonna be like him yet.

-you people in seattle, you know i’m always looking out for your asses– a list of ticketing hot spots on i-5. i’m not saying drive fast elsewhere, but this is just interesting to know.

-i woke up late this morning and it took me an hour to get to work. that wouldn’t be such a big deal if i were going more than 20 miles. i’m so freaking exhausted i’m gonna call it quits on looking for links for the day. i been so bored with the internet the past few days had me struggling to find content, only to find myself reading espn and looking for of baseball signing rumors.

AND THEN i end up pontificating on stupid shit i don’t really know about and you all muthafuckas could give two shits about. SO instead i preface all of that with some boring shit about my lame day. don’t like baseball? skip to the next bullet point you little shit.

anyway, after all that ranting, i’ll make it quick: ichiro (and his agent) are asking 15 mil. m’s could sign vlad for that. he’s on my shit list if this makes us pick up some no name. if espn is even remotely right about where the top 50 free agents are going (i can’t find a frickin’ link to it anymore), then next season looks bleak for the mariners.

-did you seriously skip that shit? whatever, i don’t give a good goddamn. that new wheat record is weird, man. it’s sounds like jimmy eat world sometimes, and they seriously fuck up “don’t i hold you” with some ill-conceived up beat drum track. zapped the earnestness right out of the fucking song. i instantly started singing to “i met a girl” though, with its spastic breathiness. it’s oh so fucking good. might take some time for the rest, but the fucker might grow on me still.

i’m trying to set a record for curses in one post today. fuckfuckfuckshit. see your monkey asses tomorrow.

cartoon network has just started selling these hugely expensive packages of cartoon related items, they’re called the ultimate wishlist. included on this list is the dexter’s lab room for 100 grand. sound expensive? it is, but just some of what’s included:

  • Two Lava Lamps
  • Six Colored Resin-Filled Lab Beakers
  • Motorola 2.4 GHz Digital Dual Handset Cordless Telephone
  • Sony 27″ Flat Screen Television
  • Nintendo Game Cube Platinum Edition
  • Sony 500 Watt Home Theater System
  • HP Pavilion Computer with 15″ LCD Monitor
  • Sanyo Platinum Finish 2.5 cu. ft. Mini Fridge

another cool one is the space ghost desk and chair for 40 grand. it includes the sony dream system for sound and a mini-fridge and an lcd tv that pops out of desk.

so if any of ya’ll run into a shitload of money and wanna get me something nice, check out the ultimate list for me. i’d do the same for you!

-comedy central is launching a show that is like queer eye, except not. it’s called straight plan for the gay man and sounds ill-conceived and a lot like something the man-show would think of.

-what a dream it would be to
rid the world of rumsfeld. too bad it’s never gonna happen, because there is always a place for idiots in this world. especially in the government.

-i love how yahoo calls a story about getting a condom in your soup
“soup surprise”. didn’t you suckas know that clam chowder is in the top 3 courses that kitchen staff fuck with? i don’t know the others, but i can tell you i dropped some crazy bread on the floor and served it up once (5 second rule punks!).

-the funniest thing about this article on
portable satellite dishes on SUVs is that the woman considers plopping your kids in front of a tv baby-sitting. i’m down with tv in the car, but damn, man, make ‘em read a book or some shit.

-popular mechanics has a feature on a bunch of motorcycles models for 04, including thisbuell xb12r bike. it’s pretty sick, and looks an awful lot like the cyclone from robotech.

-i caught star wars clone wars short the other day, and felt it was very rushed (at least the first episode), but found it pretty cool that they’re showing one every night this week. no waiting a week for a 3 minute short is a good thing. if you missed it, they have them up on the site.

-i’m pretty disappointed in the mariners new gm already. bavasi said they probably won’t sign any big fish, which probably means they’ll not chase guerrero and get someone that bats .290 in the outfield and hits 7 homeruns a year. he seems to be pretty big on smaller guys that make a difference and lists a few, like olerud, sele, nelson, and rhodes, most of which aren’t even with the team anymore (rhodes is probably going away as a free agent). i’ll give him olerud, but sele was ineffective in the post-season, and nelson and rhodes are relief that the m’s don’t necessarily need anymore judging by the performance last year, they are replaceable.

instead of going for someone that does a decent job at their position, they need offense that is consistent and big. vlad is just that, and he keeps the strength of last season, a solid defensive outfield. with practically everything else running the same as last year, that’s all the team would need to make a run for the pennant. i’d even say they should can put cirillo in at third platooning with bloomquist, and guillen at short. take freddy out to save cost, and promote a starter. the defense would be golden, and the hole in offense with cirillo would be forgiveable because the top of the order would be ichiro, vlad, boone, martinez, and olerud.

buuuut, that’s just me and i reserve the right to be wrong about a game i started liking two years ago.

-i know it’s veterans day today. a few years jason and james drank capfuls of shampoo to celebrate it. i won’t be doing that anytime soon, but encourage everyone to drink shampoo to honor vets. non-toxic, please.

i’m still feeling kinda shitty and am starting to wonder if it’s not just allergies that are bothering me, because my nose feels awful and my throat is itchy as hell. buuuut, it’s time for me to stop complaining.

picked up hey mercedes - loses control, strokes - room on fire, slomo rabbit kick - bass monster lives in the bass forest, wheat - per second, per second…, iron and wine - the sea and rhythm, ted leo - tell balgeary, bulgary is dead, and the lucksmiths - a little distraction. owl got a bunch of stuff too, including the very good cup of sand from superchunk. spent way too much money, but expect a review or two soon.

understand what i’m saying

shit people, i went home sick from work today, there’s been something crawling up and down my throat all day long and i been hocking up something fierce. if you got something you want to share, now’s the time to hit up the comments.

but every hero walks alone

you know how i know i’ve truly surpassed the line between being a fair-weather baseball fan and a hardcore nerd? it’s when i get excited about the offseason trades and look forward to seeing the m’s make moves to get better. but it’s true, i’m stoked and would fucking love to see the m’s sign kaz matsui or vlad guerrero. better yet, both. i know nothing about the payroll situation and am pretty skeptical of it happening, but i haven’t gotten nerdy enough to know that shit yet. adding two (almost) 30/30 players to the lineup would be ill.

-now that the fall tv season is in full effect, i can get back to filling posts with random tv shite like…

ed this season has been pretty good. michael ian black has been golden, as usual, and the writing has been pretty competent. i’m glad they’re finally doing away with the “will they get together?” crap they drowned in last season and are starting to develop an actual adult relationship between carol and ed. warren is good, he’s such a mini-ed, and mike is starting to get a little depth of his own. what’s really good? burt reynolds as mike’s dad on the 19th.

there’s an archive of 10 dollar bets on the ed site, my favorite:

Episode: Opposites Distract

Ed bets Mike, “Ten bucks if you sing your love to a guy who’s bowling.”

Mike to bowler: “Tonight I celebrate my love for you. It seems like the natural thing to do. Tonight no one’s gonna find us. We’ll leave the world behind us. When I make love to you. Tonight.”

and i miss clem snide as the opening song.

-what’s the deal with the west wing? what’s happening there? i only started watching it again after i skipped a season. josh looks likes he’s in deep doo-doo.

-some really nice artwork at dchiang.com who did some pd work for star wars. he’s collaborated with orson scott card on a new book called robota.

-i hate movieads, too. there’s a website dedicated to lawsuits against theaters that show that shit. stupid cineplexes.

-thank god i freaking get paid tonight at midnight because i’m running on empty.

the city it loves you it gives you oxygen

i just checked out this song from the "https://www.polyvinylrecords.com/">polyvinyl records site by a band called decibully and i can’t quite pin down what song it sounds like. i hate it when people listen to stuff and right off say something like “sounds like ______”, but seeing as i can’t even place who it is, i’m exempting myself. oh, wait, nevermind, i know. ooh, baby, baby, you’re a wild one. still pretty good, though: decibully | tables turn.

-hardcore home movies fans already know, but there’s going to be a sneak peak of the new season coming up on november 11th on cartoon network at 3am. it’s called “Everyone’s Entitled To My Opinion”, nov 11. at 3am. if you don’t tivo or vcr it, at least listen to the sound clip of the week.

-i don’t care if you dress up like spider-man to protest something, but i really do want someone to get original and do some real freaking crime fighting. i’m talking vigilante style justice here. i’m talking about kelly mcevers style justice, sans the gov’t. crap. if haven’t heard the superheroes episode from this american life, do yourself a favor and click away.

-new zealand is putting gandalf on a coin, which is fine with me. makes me wonder why the US rarely ever put anyone of literary stature on a currency (stamps DO NOT count). japan’s got three authors on paper, natsume soseki, inazo nitobe, and yukichi fukuzawa.

-john k. samson (of the weakerthans) went into cbc studios early this year and played a few songs solo to a national audience. the cbc flash site for samson’s performance is pretty cool, and it includes a song not on reconstruction site.

-watched 24 last night, both first eps and have to say i wasn’t immediately impressed. the new characters, thus far were little more than annoying, and the surprises were mediocre, but hell, it’s only the first few episodes, i’m not one to shut down the party before the music’s even started.

did anyone catch yo la tengo’s autumn sweater playing in the background of the dope discovery scene in kyle’s room?

so i’ve been having a few problems with blog comment spam as of late, so i gathered a few resources to help find out what it’s all about and how to combat it. it’s not the most exciting post item, but useful for those that have had the same problem: there’s two wired articles. and for those using movabletype, a plug-in to blacklist those crappy comments that are just trying to get porn sites higher on google, it’s called mt-blacklist.

-josh gave me a copy of a bunch of unreleased rocketship recordings, which are really good, but haven’t been released (as far as i know). there is, however, an mp3 of one of dusty’s songs from omnibus, it’s called never gonna let you go, and it rules. excellent production, lots of sounds and lush work, a la pet sounds (gawd, how many more people can drop that name like that?), but seriously, listen to it.

-there’s an open letter to the creator of space invaders at mcsweeneys. it reminds me of dreaming about puzzle fighter and marble madness, which, now that i think about it, were more like nightmares than dreams. it makes me shudder just thinking about those squiggly worms attacking my marble.

-from gizmodo, there’s a new submersible 2 megapixel digital camera for like 200 bucks. sounds good if you want to take pictures of stuff underwater like fish, gold treasure, and mermaids.

-the 2003 tokyo car show just happened, there’s a few articles on it over at the car connection, including tons of hybrid cars from lexus. this quote was cool:

If anything, the need to make cleaner, more fuel-efficient vehicles has become a simple, accepted truth among Japanese manufacturers. “It is essential we share awareness of (such) problems,” said Yoshihide Munekumi, the chairman of Honda Motor Co., during an industry round table.

one of the new hybrids is said to get some 141 miles per gallon. that’s the shit.

-mariner fans rejoice, edgar is not retiring, and he WILL sign with the mariners, no doubt, otherwise the management is much stupider than i thought it could ever be.

-and sorry there was no post yesterday, but here’s the leftover links:

homestar runner halloween costume from chromewaves, the winner of the world beard championships from yewknee, and some awesome handdrawn pics inspired by listening to radiohead, via boingboing.

come to think of it, there’s a ton of good links on boingboing today, as if you didn’t visit them already.
