and i hope when you think of me years down the line you can’t find one good thing to say
-this pic is priceless. thanksgiving carl rules. last year, i whipped together a page real quick-like for our thanksgiving menu, and put something similar on top. you can look at it at the old site if you want, but be warned, you’ll only get about 10 seconds before you’re redirected to the index and then back here, so just glance at the top.
-i forgot to mention that i picked up dave chapelle’s killing me softly dvd on the cheap at best buy this weekend. that dude is so fucking funny. his page is all broken and shit, but try sometime and you might be able to check out some of the chapelle’s show realmedia videos at davechapelle.com.
also picked up the office and the black album, i’ll have more to say about the latter, but the office is just funny. you can hear and watch clips at wernhamhogg.co.uk. i can’t wait until the second season comes out, having seen those first, a while back, i’m itching to see them again, especially david brent’s motivational speeches, which are the shit.
-yeah, most of you know that that pitchfork finished with their top top 100 of the 90’s, which is fine, i guess it’s no surprise what their number one pick was. i’m not saying i agree with it, but that’s all a matter of taste. i do take issue with the shitty writing of dicrescenzo’s on the soft bulletin and others read like bad e-mails or stupid blog reviews (i realize the irony and ahem, hypocrisy), but the reviews he writes just pale in comparison to bowers, lemay, pemberton.
that said, i’m glad nmh got their dues.
-i thought 24 last night was incredibly lackluster. was it just me or was there an inordinate amount of commercial breaks? kyle did show some character trying to hang his dumbass, but the prison break was predictable, the speech drama was boring, and the deer hunter scene was idiotic. tense, but idiotic. it’s starting to show that all these episodes are being written on the fly. hopefully this episode just caught me in a bad suspension of disbelief mood.
-i’ve been meaning to link these e-gullet online culinary classes for a while now. ben showed me them a while back, there’s a lot of good classes in there for people that want to learn basics of cooking as well as cooking different kinds of food. since this coming long weekend is all about food, i thought i drop it in here.
just browsing through the headlines over there, it’s also come to my attention that a cook’s tour, tony bourdain’s food adventure show on foo network has ceased production after finsihing two episodes. apparently food network wanted them to start going to US places and bourdain and company weren’t interested. it’s a shame, really.
-i got this to say, the new mountain goats album is effing hot. christopher mcguire, known for his frenetic and grandiose live drumming for john vanderslice, is hitting the skins on we shall all be healed, joined with franklin bruno on keys, peter hughes on bass and nora danielson on violin. all, of course, supporting john darnielle’s incredibly literate and anthemic songwriting. vanderslice produces, and it was recorded in the northwest over at bear creek in woodinville, and his production never fails to amaze me with the sounds he gets. no tracks are available online, but john vanderslice also took some great pictures of the recording session.
just for good measure, i’ve listened to this mountain goats song, from tallahassee, like five times in a row:
the mountain goats | no children
-taking off for northern cali tonight, getting ready for mad food and a visit with the folks, might check in sometime, but don’t count on it. for those in the US, have a good thanksgiving and everyone else have a good weekend.

I was just coming around to second that. I want to sing it nice and loud, but there are tiny ears nearby who would LOVE to spend the rest of the week singing “I hope you die, I hope we both die.”
Happy turkeyday, turkeypants.

tis a great song.
have you heard the extra glenns (john and franklin) yet? they have this kick ass “love” song….
our love is like jesus
though you seal the cave up where you laid its body
it rises, it rises
our love is a monster plain and simple
though you weigh it down rocks to try and drown it
it floats, it floats…
going to marrakesh i think is the name. seriously find it if you haven’t heard it before. it is one of john’s most goose-bumply of anthems…

even a year later, i still almost want to pick tallahassee as my favorite album this year too — that disc blows my mind. i hope it is followed up with something equally excellent because i would just be plain tickled.
