what a day, huh? well, the land war has started in iraq, troops are pushing north from kuwait towards baghdad, plowing their way through any adversaries. bombing has set baghdad on fire. war protests have taken place across the world, in san francisco, chicago, berlin, and i even saw some kids on the local news sitting in traffic over in westwood.

me? i got to work at 6 this morning, worked throughout the day. apparently the internet usage has tripled at my work since the war has started, and IT requested that we not look at news sites nor make use of any live feeds. i can understand live feeds, but not looking at news sites is where i draw the line. i’m not going to hear that a nuke just went off 8 hours after the fact. that’s just not acceptable. that’s one of my excuses for not posting earlier, because i had to make limited use of the web, and covertly (though posting about not liking the new policy on internet usage on the internet is kind of stupid, but whatever).

i worked all day, and only recently got back from work, i left at 515, didn’t get home until about 630. traffic sucks. but what the hell do i really have to complain about? nothing, that’s right. nothing.

i don’t think i’ve experience prolonged ambivalence over anything since i graduated from college last year. it’s a weird feeling, though not unfamiliar. i have very little to talk about today, but will point you towards the new website that i and a few of my friends have been working– none of the links work and it’s still in the early stages, but the idea behind introducing it to the world is that it will get me to try and finish the project up and get it rolling. the site is (though, i realize now, that i haven’t even gotten the domain yet) textwar.

these are being dropped from planes into iraq
i can’t stay away, try as i might, from current events. here’s the list.

we’ve started dropping more “leaflets” (why don’t they just call it propaganda?) on the iraqis, in anticipation of the war. this is one of them. i wonder, who does graphic design for the military? and why did they choose that border?

and to think, we didn’t just spend our time renaming potatoes, we also did some sophomoric espionage! apparently, there was some wiretapping found at french, german EU Offices, though really, they don’t know who did the taps. man, how uncool is that, though, they were using wiretaps back in the day, why couldn’t they get some of the high-tech junk out there. they come off as simple phreaks.

there’s already been some bombing, and i’m inclined to think there’s been a lot more than this going on since monday.

salon seeks equal representation and a case against families who say “no.” i honestly don’t know much about mormons, though what i do know is mostly hearsay, with some info mixed in from a few trusted sources, here is what comes to mind: church diapers, owners of pepsi and in and out burgers, get married early and to other mormons, flock to brigham young, and do lots of missionary work. now, my ignorance shown, there’s things that are really odd, and things that are not. i’m interested in the odd. what do you know? (oh, yes, i also remember matt doing some research on the religion at one point)

while eating meat doesn’t tend to gross me out, breathing it is a whole other story. whooston!

and for those that don’t visit metafilter on a regular basis, and have been looking for an alternative to ben and jerry’s hippie ice cream, i give you the patriot’s ice cream. every time i think of ben and jerry, think of that simpsons episode where homer is charge of the hippie’s drink bottling plant and at one point he protests, signing billy joel’s uptown girl. you know what i’m talkin’ ’bout. you don’t? listen at the i can’t believe it’s a simpsons club. check out all the sounds on their sounds page, there’s a ton of stuff, and it’s all funny. all. of. it.

whilst on the topic of cartoons, i found these two interesting tid-bits: the creator of such shows as the jeffersons and all in the family, norman lear, is collaborating on several episodes of south park. now i watched an entire season of the jeffersons, found it mildly humorous, and had the theme song stuck in my head for about two months. i can’t stand all in the family. keep an eye out for episodes about iraq, immigration, and reality tv; those are penned with the help of lear.

crisis programming is soon to be popping up (i think it may already be there, this is kind of old news) on kids channels during those afternoon cartoons. do kids need to know about this? something big is happening in history right now, and this will be the second war in my lifetime– do you remember the gulf war? i do. i collected gulf war trading cards. my uncle bought them for me, i feel ashamed now that i think about it.

but ah, the cartoon network is sticking to it’s guns as a safe haven. you’ll get no talk of war there, even, i’m assuming on adult swim. i always keep the channel on the return button, anyway.

lastly (for now), check out this old school drum machine, via thingsmagazine.net.

i finished my march book early; it was stupid white men by michael moore. it was an interesting book, brought up some interesting points and though i’ve heard and read some things that tend to question his accuracy in researching statistics, it does still strike a chord.

i’ve heard michael moore likened in terms of stupidity to that of ann coulter or rush limbaugh– i’m not going to refute that, there’s plenty of times where moore comes off as juvenile, and i don’t think he’s all that funny or clever in print form though i like his films. he’s got a heart, or portrays it well, just like conservatives like ann coulter do very well in showing that they’re heartless.

regardless of the fact that i think moore is stupid, i’m glad i read the book, because he said a lot of things that i needed to hear. like his defense of nader and nader-voters, and his look into the 2000 presidential race debacle. though i’m not sure what of that i can take as true, it’s still nice to hear.

i’ve been completely soaked in political rhetoric, war/anti-war, mystery diseases and other current events, and i’m drowning in it. i don’t know what book i’m going to read next month, i have something in mind that i’ve started, but am not sure if my heart can take any more crushing. got something light for me to read? please, chime in. what have you read lately?

in the same vein, what would you like to talk about?
