there’s a new series by the state kids that may soon be showing up on comedy central some time soon. was reading through the site today (if you haven’t been there before, certainly go now, it archives the majority of the state skits as well as a bunch of stuff from stella and other state-related entertainment as well as non-state-related things like the upright citizens brigade).

another thing i found there is that stella, the comedya show that david wain, michael showalter, and michael ian black do at fez in new york is releasing a dvd, which is available at teenangst.com. i plan on getting it sometime soon. while i’m on the subject, i hadn’t realized that david wain did some writing for the daily show.

i left work today, very early, came home and got knocked out on the couch for a few hours. it’s opening day for a lot of teams today, though not the mariners. my fantasy baseball team is playing right now, and getting their ass kicked very well. very, very well– i’m in last. good news, though, the mariners are going to be on tv down here and everywhere, on espn2. like you care, right?

in the coming out soon on dvd department: toonzone reports fox has release dates and you can pre-order futurama season 2, the family guy, and (ahem) king of the hill. yeah, i don’t like king of the hill, either. beavis and butthead on the other hand….

The most influential men, got influential friends, and i’m a put the squeeze on all of ‘em

i’m kicking back for lunch with my peanut butter and jelly sandwich and tim’s cascade salt and vinegar chips (who knew you could get those out here? unfortunately, i couldn’t get my hands on the jalepeño ones, the only bag they had was open, and i don’t want my chips tainted with anything). my breath’s going to stink shortly, watch out.

friday playlist is back, again, something short and i’ve included the circus of the stars track. what with the war going on and all i’ve found it harder and harder to put something together that’s relevant or cohesive, but you don’t really care, do you? i didn’t think so.

games
biz markie promo 12″ | groove attack records | 2002
got this link from ben, it’s from the groove attack website, it’s a real media file, so don’t trip when it doesn’t show up on the stream. biz hasn’t released anything in years, and as far as i can tell, the new album was supposed to be released back in october of last year, but it doesn’t look like it ever came out. that picture of him with the tiny mic is the shit, though.
the squeeze
training day soundtrack/single 12″ | priority/noo trybe | 2001
this is actually the track i meant to put up a while back instead of the track i did put up, the militia. not that that’s a bad song, but this song is pretty hot. that new album is coming soon, and you can catch a preview over at the gangstarr site.
baby
de mel, de malão | merge records | 2000
mac does a decent accent and a stunning job on everything else on this cover. it’s sunny here, and this song makes me appreciate that so much more.
definite
i finally finished mixing this only to find out that the vocals are way to loud for my liking, as the guitar is way too low. i boosted the low end for the bass drum but couldn’t get rid of the clicking thump, which probably has something to do with the way i recorded it. i used two mics for the drums, a sony condenser that i used from my minidisc player for the kick, and the shure 57 for the snare, close mic’d. i liked this song at first, but not so much anymore, but that usually goes for anything i’ve ever written. regardless, enjoy, feedback is appreciated.
stream most of them

have a good weekend, go watch the core and laugh your ass off for me.

you could say i’m compiling a list: more attempts at war profiteering

We’d used the time for a walk and some wine, but these days I’m trying not to think about time

the wind’s been howling all morning, i was the only one here at work for a while, and the sound of the wind throught the cracks in the hallway was whistling, and the windows and doors creaked from the strain of the air pushing aginst them.

i haven’t been getting much sleep lately. i’ve started to doze frequently in the mornings, which is why i’ve started drinking coffee again.

today’s worse than usual, i start to work, and then find myself stuck to a button on the keyboard that won’t lift itself up, my fingers feel like they’ve got fishing weights tied to the tips. the beeps and dings from the computer usually wake me, and though it doesn’t happen often enough for anyone to catch me dozing, i do feel a little embarrassed for myself.

to make a case for myself, i say this is not a case of laziness. i do my work, i get my work done. my wrists have become increasingly tired, and the sides of my torso tend to cramp up sometimes, an odd pinching sensation that’s not at all comfortable. and still, i work.

when i worked at the metro, there was a girl there who always pushed for the job at the usher stand so she could sit down. one evening i was working across the floor in the concessions stand. she leaned back in her chair, ever so slightly. she was large, a big circular shape on top of a stool, two steel legs straining against the floor as the other two floated stiffly in the air. i looked more closely across the counter as her head tilted back when i heard a snort. she was sleeping. that level of laziness is impressive.

but i digress. first cup of coffee is gone, luckily, it’s loosened the shutters a bit. i finally managed to get a song onto the computer last night, but when fiddling to increase the volume and cut the beginning and tail of it, i managed to erase the whole song. i’ll have to re-digitize it later on today. expect it tomorrow, hopefully with some new tracks i can scrounge up.

here’s some interviews i’ve found lately with geoff farina: in german, but farina answers in english, short and from the universeity of wisconsin, and this one which gets hard to read after a while, but is still pretty interesting.

death cab single

i thought this fit in nicely with yesterday’s post– pilfered this from the barsuk records message board:

underwater!

you were my army and i would command, “attack the holy land” and you were that interstate that i would roll my tanks down so color me stunned and wake the children when done and put the details in a jar and and bury them underwater i went to see these battlegrounds w/ battlesounds (lost) and drove to the outskirts where cars are on blocks: houses run down we’ll gather up the family and display our diseased organs and we’ll call it “pride”: we’ll celebrate tonight tax-free and always underpriced…

the army corps of architects

leaving the central states for shallow ground
home in the valley but the rent’s paid south
you said the urn was half full and i said it was half empty with what was left of our fair city
call in the army corps of architects to flatten the skyline and begin again i knew the years would move quickly, but never quite as fast as this
so bring the discrepancies: i’ll pour the drinks

the good girl

goodgirl.jpg
when this came out on dvd a while back, i’d go to blockbuster every weekend and find it out. we had it at work for a while, but i never got past the first 5 minutes or so. i finally subscribed to netflix and got it in the mail and it sat on top of the dvd player for a good couple of weeks. when i finally got around to watching it, i was delighted for the first half hour.

as the movie wore on, i found myself less and less involved and liking aniston’s character less and less, gyllenhaal’s character not at all. i felt sorry for j.c. reilly, and then the movie was over. ultimately forgettable, but i’ll blame that on the improper build up of it in my head over the few months leading to the viewing.

the thermals : more parts per million

thermals.jpg
this record is loud, even if you turn it down, way, way down, it’s still really loud. i haven’t yet found the perfect time to listen to it, but man, when i do, it’s gonna be fuckin’ ruckus.

short, sweet, catchy and all recorded on 4-track in what sounds like a day. and no, that’s not bad. that’s good. an mp3 is located at the subpop thermals site or right here. i don’t know what super group means to you, so listen and decide.

freedom car!
i can’t wait to get my own freedom car. i hope it’s really big and gets an indecent yet alluring amount of miles per gallon. i got this comic, and this one
here, too from get your war on, via catchdubs.

As the first bombs rain down on Baghdad, thousands of employees of Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, are working alongside US troops in Kuwait and Turkey under a package deal worth close to a billion dollars. According to US Army sources, they are building tent cities and providing logistical support for the war in Iraq in addition to other hot spots in the “war on terrorism.”

While recent news coverage has speculated on the post-war reconstruction gravy train that corporations like Halliburton stand to gain from, this latest information indicates that Halliburton is already profiting from war time contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars…

Cheney served as chief executive of Halliburton until he stepped down to become George W. Bush’s running mate in the 2000 presidential race. Today he still draws compensation of up to a million dollars a year from the company, although his spokesperson denies that the White House helped the company win the contract…

Meanwhile Dick Cheney’s 2001 financial disclosure statement, states that Halliburton is paying him a “deferred compensation” of up to $1million a year following his resignation as chief executive in 2000. At the time Cheney opted not to receive his severance package in a lump sum, but instead to have it paid to him over five years, possibly for tax reasons.

via alternet.org

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has hired Houston-based Halliburton Co. to execute a plan to douse the oil-well fires in Iraq, based on a blueprint that the firm originally drew up.

same story, houston chronicle

Between them, the bidders — a quartet of well-connected corporate consortiums that includes Bechtel Group, Fluor Corp., and, of course, Vice President Cheney’s old cronies at Halliburton — have donated a combined $2.8 million over the past two election cycles, 68 percent of which went to Republicans.

and once again, though with the obvious slant, from arianna huffington.

needless to say, i guess i see where the whole oil thing comes in now, but it’s still not about oil, right? that’s just a bonus.

atari joystick
for those that are too lazy to go find them elsewhere and in their classic form, get the atari joystick and 10 games and play them on tv.

jeese, this excerpt from the stranger’s article on seattle’s war protests makes me feel weird:

Some student organizers blamed the timing of the war for the low attendance: Finals week was wrapping up as war started, and many college studentsófrom the UW, SCCC, and Seattle Universityóhad already left campus for spring break.

i keep wondering if the reason matt hasn’t updated in so long is because he’s in jail.

yeah, yeah, i watched some of the oscars last night. all i really caught was moore’s speech, which was funny in itself; i expect nothing else from him.

drinking a beer, home from work. tired as hell.
