IRCMT 2009 (Day 10)

Thanks for all the songs! The deadline is open, so if you have a desire or are still working on something, please, feel free. We’re still working ourselves. But I just go this one on Friday!

Home (Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zeroes) - Cougar Country

Cougar Country is Shane, Amie and Josh and hails from Pullman, WA. Their name is also the name of a local Dairy Queen-type frozen treat place where Shane once honked at a kid making us all ice cream (on accident). He later apologized, but the kid still spit in all of our ice cream.

Just kidding.

He only spit in Shane’s ice cream.

But the song! These guys are a welcome addition to the IRCMT pantheon. The song has a great little twang to it and a great hook, it’s been in my head most of the day. Also, someone is a whistling virtuoso. Nicely done! Oh, and the saw! Well done!

Lastly: Congratulations and welcome to Josh and Randa’s new baby son, born yesterday!

    KICK. ASS.

I gotta say, I did some HA_HAHA AHAHA A HAHA AHH AH A-ing during that back-and-forth about the cat.

Plus, the subtly twangy vocals, the saw(?), the glockenspiel… Yeah, A+.

Loved it!! Even though I admit to being very prejudiced when it comes to this duo, I loved the genuine sincere tone in their voices – they made their words believable and they are! Look forward to their next one.

  3. B-Dogg's Dad Says:

A warm fire in a cabin in the snowy mountains; a seaside cabana as the sun sets over the ocean; an emergency drive to the vet with the constipated cat – can there possibly be any greater romantic possibilities?

gotta go with b-dogg on this one… so lovely how the vocals, saw, glockenspeil, whistling (love that!) all comes together; it’s a really great composition and collaboration. and just such fun! tim and i were cracking up in the car when we were first listening, gesturing how drunk shane must have been…

    so yeah. kick ass!

Glad you like it gang! definitely a great song pick for 09, I can’t help but smile even after about 100 listens.

I’m glad everyone likes it! There’s no way in hell it would have been possible without Dr. J Kaffer as he did all the instrumentation. If anyone has a chance to record with Dr. J I would highly recommend it. He made it fun – we got to have an all-out jamboree in his living room, followed up with a game of poker and jalapeno jam.

So thanks, J. We owe you.

Thanks to Tim for continuing the IRCMT. I’m glad I finally got the balls to do it for the wedding. Now I’m hooked. And we got Shane involved!

And yes, the constipated cat is a true story.

  7. AMIEABLE » Home Says:

[...] Well this time I got Longball in on the action and with the help of our friend Josh (who was also the wedding photographer for Alison’s wedding), we recorded our version. [...]

  8. bmpmlb Says:

Yep; you guys are in forever, now. No getting away from us.

  9. Jenna Says:
