this has the makings of a movie in it. a stradivarius cello valued at $3.5 mill was stolen from los feliz house, and i just picture the thief in a ninja outfit with high-tech gadgets spraying shit on laser-beams so they don’t set off the alarm (and definitely NOT picturing sean connery stealing this shit all gray and stuff), and selling it to some quirky, eccentric and evil drug lord with cash to burn just so he can have the cello (which, amazingly enough, holds some sort of mystical powers that enables whomever wields it to rule the world or play cello like a madman/woman).

what? when did this happen? people are getting rich off the internet again? you want in on some of that? well, according to cnn’s article on getting in on the google ipo, it basically sounds like the people with big money to spend (and i’m not even talking real investor money) will be the only ones who will most definitely benefit (i mean, unless you’re part of the company, of course) from this. it’s going online auction style, so if you can snag some for a low price without it getting sold out, it might be worth a shot.

look at me, giving stock advice. i don’t know shit about this stuff, but that’s what the cnn money article says, so take what you want. harvey needs to become an investment banker and do this shit for me.

here’s the alternate version of the my little brother song that’s gonna be on the magic marker comp (if i actually get it to curt in time for mastering). feat. rick and brandon hollering and playing accordian/foosball.

pitchfork’s mp3 page has one from bellingham’s the pale. i didn’t listen to the whole thing, but i gotta mention anything related to the ‘ham, right?

i actually donated a couple bucks to this guy for bandwidth for the ben folds show at foellinger he’s hosting, mostly because it’s so rare that i hear a song and get a little teary-eyed when i hear it. i’m talking about late, the song about elliott smith. i’ll probably host it later, but if you’re gonna listen to it on repeat, save the guy some bandwidth and just download it and save it on your hd.

polyvinyl has a new mp3 from owen on their site from an ep that comes out in the near future. the song is called in the morning, before work and is pristine and nice.

i was listening to “no good for no one” last night when trying to mix mlb for the magic marker comp that it’s gonna be on– the acoustic on that album is so amazingly cut apart from all the other instrumentation on it, and the vocals are so unabashedly up front. amazing stuff.

more on those photos the pentagon doesn’t want published. and while we’re being all political, here’s a two-minute cut up clip featuring bush’s ineptness in press conferences (read: why he’s only had three): the good parts.

this is a good idea, netflix on demand, and particularly interesting if they actually team up with tivo and you can download movies to your pvr, because you can keep them as long as you want for a one-time charge. i imagine it’s just like doing pay-per-view, but will have a huge library of films. the cost should remain relatively low, they’d just have to deal with licensing issues, but it could probably help tivo survive in the future.

ah, shit. jv’s got two tracks up at his site, one is a vinyl only track that was released by sea level records, kyoto pond, and the other from the jv/mountain goats split on ben gibbard’s bedside recording called, advancing army clip.

i can’t listen to any of their stuff because the links are broken, but that picture at the top of the page for super grupp is reason alone to check it out.

pentagon angered byÝphotos from military mortuary.

“Quite frankly, we don’t want the remains of our service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice to be the subject of any kind of attention that is unwarranted or undignified,” said John Molino, a deputy undersecretary of defense.

the official site at thememoryhole.org is down at the moment, either /.’d or maybe pentagon threatened to deport the guy, but you can catch a quick glimpse of what it looked like through the google cache.

if anything, the thin veneer of “respect towards servicemen” is rather insulting. they did the same thing in desert storm and tried to do it during vietnam. the administration hates bad publicity for their war but it’s a definite lose/lose situation for them all around and this is the best route the could choose. they’re just trying to slow the disintegration of support. liberals will feast on this and conservatives will laud it.

the entire Pedro the lion’s Achilles Heel site is loaded with shit to look at and you can stream (as of today) the first six tracks, and there’s recording notes on all the songs including mic notes for every recorded instrument and voice, which is pretty dope.

the cruch on the guitar of “keep swinging” is sick, man, and the album as a whole (again, at least the first six tracks) strikes me as a lot quirkier than previous albums and much less straight-forward, most definitely compared to it’s hard to find a friend.

thanks to cbs for linking this before me.

here’s some of montreal tour dates. elephant six shows have always been a trip to participate in, the of montreal show i went to a few years back comes in a close second to the olivia tremor control i saw a little while before them. i used to lie to people and say i saw neutral milk hotel before in an effort to solidify my indie cred, but really, i didn’t. but a friend of mine did and i would recount her entire story whenever they were mentioned. the story itself wasn’t that interesting, except for the fact that jeremy barnes ripped it up on drums.

i’ve been digging this of montreal song from their new album, satanic panic in the attic, and will probably pick it up soon. for now, you can listen to it, too: disconnect the dots.

mad sound clips, when you just HAVE to hear something funny from office space.

Yeah, well at least your name isn’t Michael Bolton. You know there’s nothing wrong with that name. There was, nothing wrong with it, until I was about 12 years old and that no talent ass clown became famous and started winning grammys. Well, why don’t you just go by Mike instead of Michaell. No way, why should I change, he’s the one who sucks.
