thanks

-this pic is priceless. thanksgiving carl rules. last year, i whipped together a page real quick-like for our thanksgiving menu, and put something similar on top. you can look at it at the old site if you want, but be warned, you’ll only get about 10 seconds before you’re redirected to the index and then back here, so just glance at the top.

-i forgot to mention that i picked up dave chapelle’s killing me softly dvd on the cheap at best buy this weekend. that dude is so fucking funny. his page is all broken and shit, but try sometime and you might be able to check out some of the chapelle’s show realmedia videos at davechapelle.com.

also picked up the office and the black album, i’ll have more to say about the latter, but the office is just funny. you can hear and watch clips at wernhamhogg.co.uk. i can’t wait until the second season comes out, having seen those first, a while back, i’m itching to see them again, especially david brent’s motivational speeches, which are the shit.

-yeah, most of you know that that pitchfork finished with their top top 100 of the 90’s, which is fine, i guess it’s no surprise what their number one pick was. i’m not saying i agree with it, but that’s all a matter of taste. i do take issue with the shitty writing of dicrescenzo’s on the soft bulletin and others read like bad e-mails or stupid blog reviews (i realize the irony and ahem, hypocrisy), but the reviews he writes just pale in comparison to bowers, lemay, pemberton.

that said, i’m glad nmh got their dues.

-i thought 24 last night was incredibly lackluster. was it just me or was there an inordinate amount of commercial breaks? kyle did show some character trying to hang his dumbass, but the prison break was predictable, the speech drama was boring, and the deer hunter scene was idiotic. tense, but idiotic. it’s starting to show that all these episodes are being written on the fly. hopefully this episode just caught me in a bad suspension of disbelief mood.

-i’ve been meaning to link these e-gullet online culinary classes for a while now. ben showed me them a while back, there’s a lot of good classes in there for people that want to learn basics of cooking as well as cooking different kinds of food. since this coming long weekend is all about food, i thought i drop it in here.

just browsing through the headlines over there, it’s also come to my attention that a cook’s tour, tony bourdain’s food adventure show on foo network has ceased production after finsihing two episodes. apparently food network wanted them to start going to US places and bourdain and company weren’t interested. it’s a shame, really.

-i got this to say, the new mountain goats album is effing hot. christopher mcguire, known for his frenetic and grandiose live drumming for john vanderslice, is hitting the skins on we shall all be healed, joined with franklin bruno on keys, peter hughes on bass and nora danielson on violin. all, of course, supporting john darnielle’s incredibly literate and anthemic songwriting. vanderslice produces, and it was recorded in the northwest over at bear creek in woodinville, and his production never fails to amaze me with the sounds he gets. no tracks are available online, but john vanderslice also took some great pictures of the recording session.

just for good measure, i’ve listened to this mountain goats song, from tallahassee, like five times in a row:

the mountain goats | no children

-taking off for northern cali tonight, getting ready for mad food and a visit with the folks, might check in sometime, but don’t count on it. for those in the US, have a good thanksgiving and everyone else have a good weekend.

don’t put marbles in your nose put them in there, do not put them in there

i don’t have a lot for you today, but i do have this: brendonsmall.com has 15 songs from home movies that brendon small wrote. though they’re all listed as secret songs, here’s a simple rundown of them i wrote as i listened to them all. funny, funny stuff:

1 don’t put marbles in your nose

2 franz kafka

3 living like a bug ain’t easy

4 i don’t know what’s wrong with me i’m turning into a bug

5 drinking coffee

6 barney birthday song

7 cars/rock about crazy legs

8 meatloaf? spinning twirling girl with crazy legs

9 straight indie rock/power pop instrumental

10 cont’d.

11 mr. pants rock

12 star man thrash metal

13 solo

14 cont’d.

15 solo finale

when i saw brendon small on the adult swim panel at the comic con this year, he was by far the most personable (and loudest) up there.

-looks like tony blair is going to be on the simpsons were already on the simpson (i’m fucking slow), along with j.k. rowling and sir ian mckellen. sigh, i don’t really know why i even added this as a notable item to comment on, because i don’t really have anything clever to say about it.

-i fucking fell asleep at 9 o’clock last night and slept for ages. thank god it’s a three day week.

and you tell me this and you tell me that

-this print is shooting right to the top of my christmas list, from the geniuses over at heads of state. there’s a ton of good prints there, but if the ones i want sell out before i have the chance to get my hands on them and i see them in your home, i’ll kill you.

built to spill | still flat — i love the fill near the end of the song that the drummer fucks up and the keyboard horns.

-hey, look at that, we’ve surpassed an average lifespan of a website. that feels great, doesn’t it? too bad everyone is stupider for having looked at it. sorry, guys.

-adult swim announced the series debuts for next year, a lot of stuff, including new home movies, harvery birdman, sealab, and a new series from seth green (family guy) that features transformers and gi joes doing stop animation stuff, called sweet j. there’s an old interview with him that talks about it streaming media world.

-how would you like to be sold as fucking dog meat?!. man, the world is FUCKED up.

-nintendo anounced a big loss (the first time since they went public in 1992!), but hinted at a new system that is neither a new gamecube or gba…hm. intriguing. i remember when everyone graduated from college a few years ago, and jason was saying, “hey, everyone got pda’s for graduation! know what i got? a GBA!” muthafucka was proud as shit, too.

-muthafucking time travel, bitches. unfortunately, worst opening for an article ever. fucking timeline?! gimmie a break, man. time travel is possible, but not plausible. goes on to say stuff about negative energy and how it’s nearly impossible to harness enough energy to create a time machine– “But at this point the burden of proof has shifted: people who are skeptical of time travel have to prove it’s impossible. And so far they have failed.” there’s another article from SA that tells you how to build a time machine. i didn’t read it, but expect that if you do and build one, that i collect a finder’s fee.

-i don’t mean to scare all my people in the nw, but geologists found evidence of a huge quake emanating off the washington coast that created huge tsunamis. apparently the fault up there is much more susceptible to quakes than anyone though. this huge one about 600 years ago: “…only three quakes this century compare in magnitude — a 9.0 quake in Kamchatka in 1952, a 9.5 quake in Chile in 1960 and a 9.2 trembler in Alaska in 1964.” DAMN.

-had a nice potluck this weekend, downed some turkey, ham, stuffing, and a few beers (okay, one, i got lazy). caught love actually which was pretty good, but i’ll have to elucidate at a further time because my ass has stretched this lunch out long enough. someone go read that book about that dude who worked for michael jackson’s security at neverland for three years and report back here, because everyone needs to know what’s going on with that.

geoff_sardina.jpeg

-some nice pics from karate’s tour last year.

-as if there were any end to death cab obsession on this site, this is the end of the dcfc heavy link week, enjoy it while you can: there’s an on-going discussion about the transatlanticism poster that showed up on the oc last night. i didn’t personally see it, but have heard the name’s been dropped on the show before. the video for “the new year” is up at mtv.com.

-i always thought getting a cool internships would be what got me that great job that i’d want to do for the rest of my life, but that one at imdb didn’t really do it. an internship working at the cartoon network, specifically working for adult swim would be spectacular. too bad i live no where near there and probably wouldn’t be very good at it. stupid liberal arts majors.

anyways, here’s the second half of the andy merrill interview, which if you got through the first one, you’ll probably want to read the next one. i didn’t get through the first one, so don’t ask me for any summaries.

-i don’t own an ipod, and i don’t see myself as the kind of person that would go around sharing my headphone jack with people. actually, i’d be less likely to actually want to hear stranger’s music than i’d want to share, since that’s basically all i do up in herre. anyhow, the whole notion of sharing your jack just seems to resemble the act of sharing a bowl or having casual sex. all related, somehow, i’m sure. enjoy.

-it’s the 40th anniversary of the kennedy assassination, and npr’s running a feature on it. you can visit the library from which oswald shot in texas, they’ve got it all set up exactly the way he had it. there’s lots of oral histories at the npr site, tons of interesting stuff about conspiracy theories, the physics of the shot, and eye witness accounts.

-funny how for some guys the most bad ass actor out there translates to “sexiest man alive”. except for kutcher, ooh, i so wanna PUNK him.

-man, i was so incredibly nauseous this morning. i just poured out my strawberry soy milk into a mug and filled it about half way. i took the mug up to my mouth and chugged until i got to the bottom, when i felt chunks hit my lips. being eight in the morning, my reaction time was tripled or quadrupled at least, and i swalled a few chunks before realizing my fault. (gag, dry heave). stomach no likey.

last night we went and saw once upon a time in mexico and saw robert rodriguez do some talking. good guy. more over at disposable.

this weekend is up for grabs, but we got a whole lot of cleaning to do at my house. our laundry is overflowing out of the closet and every morning i wake up and throw shit all over the room i’m so pissed off that i don’t have any clean clothes and i’m too goddamn lazy to do laundry. i’m gonna start eating my clothes, i think. have a good weekend.

shh, my wmplayer is working now, so no more editing html files to load m3u’s on my desktop. quit speaking gibberish! holy crap, who said that? how i love you insound. they probably won’t love me after i straight link five random songs.

norfolk and western | border oklahoma

badly draw boy | once around the block

braid | do you like coffee?

franklin bruno | a cat may look at queen

elliott smith | some song

-disposable sent me this this morning, i’m sure you’ve seen them already, but there’s some damn nice pictures of life aquatic out. i think bill looks great, albeit a bit like raleigh from royal tenenbaums.

-as a companion to the stuff i posted on death cab the other day, here’s the stranger’s review of dcfc, they’re playing in seattle this week, ending their tour. there’s also a nice interview over at seattle weekly. the interview in entertainment weekly this week is pretty funny, too. haven’t had enough? here’s all the shit from metacritic. that should tide you over for a while.

-how come no one told me ernie reyes jr. was in the rundown? i just watched his part and dude got ripped and does some sweet capoeria moves– a long ways from the last dragon/surf ninjas days.

-thanks to rick for this link for the freeway blogger, who takes pictures of all the signs on the oc and la county freeways. lots of good stuff over there.

-man, the other day we were cruising over to get some food and this guy was rolling down the sidewalk on a lowrider motorcycle. dude had a helmet on and everything, trying to look all hard even though the last three people he passed by were audibly laughing at him. “You look like a rodeo clown!”

let’s hit the road and leave our names at home

space ghost dvd was released yesterday, here’s the dvd chapter list and review. lots of good stuff, and in celebration, here’s a long interview with andy merrill at ign. the second half of the interview is going to be posted there tomorrwow.
-i know there’s all this hubbub about family guy maybe getting picked back up by fox, and i know that futurama costs a hell of a lot more to make than family guy, but damn it, stupid fox. at least make a fucking futurama movie.

-i’ve noticed the past few days that all the reporting on npr has changed from using any form of “guerilla fighter” type word for the attacks on us troops, and has replaced term with the euphimmism “insurgents.” i did a google search of insurgents and found almost every story with the word to have come out around during this month. could the administration be putting a cap on the use of “guerilla” stifle identification of this war to vietnam?

-this is not cool: m’s want to sign raul ibanez, and it looks like it’s going to happen, pretty much a done deal. a lot of people are pissed, and i’ll be in the same boat if they at least don’t get cameron to sign. sure, for 2 million more and two years less, then can make a good run at vlad guerrero and an even better run at the series next year, but that’s not that way management works around there. i expect they’re going to make a ig run at matsui now that they’ve settled for this crap. at least that’s something to be excited about, because at least then it’s something unexpected and an actual risk for the franchise.from the way ibanez looks, it’s a lose-lose situation.

-this is that blog exit thing that’s pretty funny. i didn’t install it our anything, though. hey, i got an idea, why don’t you install it on yours and then we can all look at it? that way, if it’s stupid, only one of us has wasted our time.

-jones soda is releasing turkey and gravy soda for thanksgiving, and i suspect that it’s a gag, but i’ve heard worse ideas (durian fruit bubble tea, anyone?). the soda looks murky, which isn’t the grossest part, i think that turkey they show looks like a flesh eating virus got to it. it’s all shriveled and looks like gold…balls. sofake bake tanning or something. shit, i don’t know, it just looks gross.

-ugh, did i mention my fucking pc got fried the other month? yeah, it’s fucked. anyways, someone bought french fries again. that fucker’s gonna be all fat and bloated and dead from the heart attack if this shit keeps up.

when you’re headed for the border, you’re bound to cross the line

that onion article a while back on your mom finding your blog spawned a help page on blogger about what to do when your mom finds your blog. i don’t doubt that maybe some people that don’t usually hear me say fuck as many times as i do have seen this page, but that’s fine with me, anyway. i promise, that’s the end of my excessive cussing obsession.

-i heard this thing about sony emi trying to shorten albums and put “better songs” on albums, but really, it’s kind of masking the fact that they can’t spend as much money on longer albums. my question is this: is it really the label’s responsibilty to curtail long and shitty albums? or should that responsibilty fall solely on the artist? i imagine it’s the combination of the fact, but how many bands on sony have you seen that have released solid albums?

-didn’t yahoo run this story like two months ago? you know, the one about collecting information on illegal downloaders for marketing purposes.

-i’ve seen lots of news about netflix lately, including the netflix for games, but since i don’t even get the bang for my buck at netflix, passed on that shit.

but, for those that don’t and have macs, you can check this from cricketmedia (who no longer distribute or support it, but you can still get it): netflix fanatic. check the article to find out where to get it– it’s basically a os x app that will let you manage your netflix queue without having to log on to that website.

-follow up to that dolorean track i posted yesterday, just found out today that a dolorean, rosie thomas, damien jurado tour is going on soon– those dates i posted a while back are still updated with places at damienjurado.com. mark your calendar.

-
I woke up this morning with a Post-it on my face that said, “I am very awesome, got it?”
.

-i broke out some ben lee over the weekend (actually, i lost that cd and made owl buy it when we went to sonic boom), and think back fondly at listening to that cd. remember “away with the pixies”? that track is outstanding, and rebecca gates is on it. she’s also on this quirky stereo mish-mash califone track on a tribute to kris kirstofferson: border lord.

-some mutherfucker keeps buying mcdonalds french fries and making the office smell all fried and shit. i’m not a big mcd’s fan, especially after fast food nation and all that stupid “i’m loving it” bullshit, but i’d eat my fucking desk if it was fried up all golden brown and greasy.

i wanted the heavens to open like a saloon door

a long while back when the iron and wine record came out, and matt mentioned how dolorean, from portland, OR, blows iron and wine out of the water. i found a track of his at insound, it’s called sleeperhold. i won’t say it blows iron and wine out of the water, because i&w is pretty damn good, but really, so’s this.

the production is leaps above iron and wine’s radio tin, almost rouse-like. very moody, very nice, rainy-day book reading anesthesia.

-over at the corner pocket message boards i ran into a post saying that santa rosa, ca was a kin to bellingham, wa’s music scene. names dropped included: benton falls, the new trust, escape engine (now fight like fight), and the velvet teen.

i’d heard the velvet teen before and suspected there were more good bands there, so i checked these out.

benton falls has an album out on deep elm records. one of the songs available at the site is called This Housecall Could Kill and sounds an awful lot like braid, saturated with octave chords and well-placed yelps. i find myself intrigued, yet complacent. i don’t listen to the whole song.

i checked out the new trust and remember hearing “i’m a sucker for backwards drums” somewhere but for the life of me couldn’t remember where. you can hear it at mp3.com right now, but hurry, because you know they’re shutting that shit down. that’s right, here’s:
i’m a sucker for backwards drums. it’s good, but pretty standard fare emo/indie rock.

last, i checked out escape engine (fight like fight)
but wasn’t it to it at all, and spent most of the time trying to figure out if it was a girl or guy singing.

-it’s amazing how many days in a row you can wake up in a bad mood, and it tends to, of course, only be on days where i have to go to work, well, there’s there’s no buts about it, i hate going to work. my weekend sucked, thanks for asking– exception: death cab show on friday. finishing up thoughts on that and will post it <--- later.

saturday i caught up on the whole star wars: clone wars series over at cartoon network. this is the last week, showing mon-thurs at 8 e/p. it got rolling after the first episode and though i still curse lucas for only letting them work with 3 minute episodes, they still work. it’s a lot different from samurai jack, the pacing, of course is the hardest to work with, but fisto is badass, the lancers are pretty dope, and the arc troopers were sick. check them out.

-i swear, dude, someone’s laying doing drive-by flatulence up in here. did i just see the spleen walk by?

Death Cab for Cutie: Transatlanticism

Saturday, November 15th, 2003

transat
I just got back from Death Cab, the show was good and the set was looong. Look out for the “Blacking Out the Friction/All is Full of Love” encore, with Jason going turbo on the drums. “Transatlanticism” and “We Looked Like Giants” were also stand outs. The set was loose at first, but tightened up well, though the sound was bad: the mix on the drums was awful, every time the floor tom was hit it was terribly intrusive to the rest of the mix. Regardless, one of the better times I’ve seen them play.

The album, honestly disappointed me at first, not because it wasn’t good, but because I, along with many others, have long been expecting the next We Have the Facts…, they haven’t been able or haven’t been willing to step up. I don’t blame anyone for this, and I actually feel guilty sometimes for being disappointed, because to re-create moments is a practice in idiocy and uncreativeness. I do feel like a lot of the songwriting has gotten considerably more forced, thus a lot less subtle; you can hear it on The Photo Album with “Styrofoam Plates”, and you can hear it on Transatlanticism on “We Look Like Giants.” I’m not just talking words here, this is in part is due to changes in drumming styles– McGerr’s drumming is somewhere in between Gibbard’s robotic beats and Schorr’s tip-taps.

That said, there are, as usual fine songs on this album. I thought the opening of “New Year” sounded like “Thriller” at first, but I’ve since weened myself of that predilection. I don’t give a shit what anybody else says, “The Sound of Settling” is one of my favorite songs, as well as “Passenger Seat” with its subtle (and yes, I realize that’s my main criticism: lack of subtlety) falsetto and the arpeggio vocals of “Death of an Interior Decorator” are spectacular. If nothing else the vocals on this album are a step up.

But there is a lot more than has indeed improved as the band tries to move things forward, including production, but that’s for another time.

it’s not too late for another song

traffic update: it actually to me 55 minutes to get to work yesterday, and it took me a good hours or so to get back. i went to the OC yesterday night and it took me about an hour and 45 minutes. we played some music and looked at some rad slides of josh’s grandpa’s. but enough about me.

-i think it’s pretty cool that baboons can understand complex relationships. i can’t wait until they rule the world and charlton heston will resort to cursing them on a deserted beach.

-we’re going to see death cab for cutie tonight at the henry fonda. have you been reading the tour diary? i haven’t either, but i just caught up on a few posts.

i borrowed that nada surf album proximity effect from logan the other week, it’s good, the first few songs are really good, i could do without the middle, but the end is nice, too. it’s a sandwich with good bread, but not so exciting insides. like if you didn’t like pastrami but loved rye bread and had a pastrami on rye. i tried to find some mp3s, but alas, have none from that album. perhaps someday i’ll put one up.

-remember when i was talking about those wheat songs the other day? well, yeah, here they are: i met a girl | don’t i hold you. i really like that i met a girl track.

-slatch mentioned this today and i couldn’t pass it up. i guess i’m out of the loop, too, because i still thought the band was called in english, but apparently not so, it’s called maritime instead. stream the album at the site; it’s davey von bohlen, dan didier (both from the promise ring), and eric axelson (dismemberment plan). almost cure/smiths like music, some trumpets, wood/water type feel. murmur approves. listen, you bastards.

-i got to work and logged in but the fucking computer shot an error at me saying that my profile had been corrupted. bullshit. i had a collection of mp3’s that i was about ready to unload on you today, but was foiled again by the Man. so, i ended up spending the first three hours of my work day trying to get all my preferences back and right, and trying to recollect all the bookmarks that i had. what a fucking D-R-A-G.

-this shit is f’d up, dude, this guy hanged for a year and no one noticed. i don’t have anything snarky to say, but i do think it’s pretty fuckin’ creepy.

-i’m gonna spend the weekend getting much needed work done and maybe some writing. if anyone wants my opinion on anything, you know i’ll gladly give it. send me something, and i’ll review it! i guarantee more than 200 words and at least one of them will be “fuck”.

thus ends excessive cursing week.

have a good weekend! fuck!

this isn’t a love it or leave it, it’s a change it or lose it

i checked that stuff that brl mentioned in the comments yesterday but didn’t find much, there’s a bunch of stuff up at the up above website, but they’re all short clips, the visionaries clips are good though. the typical cats have a website, but nothing up there yet– i think maybe they just registered the domain. over at galapagos there’s a ton of songs that are realaudio, but i don’t have that here at work, so i have to wait until i get home to hear. there is a story about qwel battling eyedea from the rhymesayers crew and losing, but slug being all up in his shit about dropping and trashing his name. chicago’s apparently got a big underground hip hop scene, what with i was born with two tongues, denizen kane (who’s in typical cats) and the pacifics, there’s some tracks from pacifics up at the propagandamovement website: vision and reVision (remix of the first).

another thing i been listening to is the non-prophets track that’s up at their site, called hey bobby. hot.

-chromewaves set up a nice article about kids interpreting and reacting to lucksmiths and from bubblegum to sky tracks. teacher weather! ha! that’s good. that reminds me of owl’s story about one of her kids thinking she was eating cat shoes instead of cashews. go ask her

-ed was good last night, pretty funny. phil stubbs getting action with the principal! best part: stubbs stops, looks all serious and says, “molly, remember, what happens in vegas, stays in vegas.”

-i woke up in some sad, sorry state this morning. i woke up late again, and then it took me only 45 minutes instead of an hour to get to work today. , started thinking that to be taking an hour to get tow rok, i’d have to average 20 miles per hour the whole 20 miles. what a drag.

anyways, i’m going to start a blog that is just complaining about trafic here in l.a. everyday, because i know how entertaining it would be to you folks. end sarcasm. you been checking the bathroom lately? i hope so. weird shit going down there.

-hey remember when everyone yesterday didn’t like baseball? still don’t? SKIP THIS TRACK!
this roster is the shit. with two guns in the outfield and cammie in the middle, it’s an UPGRADE on what was already the best defensive outfield in the league and adds sorely needed left-handed power in the lineup. soriano in the starting totation is interesting, i’m not convinced he will be great as a starter yet, but with the lineup that we get otherwise, i think that’s a valid risk. too bad that shit’s never gonna happen. prove us wrong bavasi!

-oh yeah, weird ass storm yesterday. ali’s school district was in the news. my throat itches so much right now i want to stick my arm in my mouth and scratch it from the inside. i have to settle with coughing up shit and clearing my throat.

i waste my time questioning, drag my heels a bit

right, so if you didn’t hear, the brain and i got a pass on our script, which is balls, fo sho, but then got right up and got solicited for some other such shite like a female thriller. we pitched it and got cock-blocked again. hoo-muthafucking-ray for hollywood.

-i dunno about you, but i think smallville sucks. i think so and ira glass thinks so, so who else is there? the onion av club interviews ira glass and apparently he watches a lot of tv. i’m gonna be like him yet.

-you people in seattle, you know i’m always looking out for your asses– a list of ticketing hot spots on i-5. i’m not saying drive fast elsewhere, but this is just interesting to know.

-i woke up late this morning and it took me an hour to get to work. that wouldn’t be such a big deal if i were going more than 20 miles. i’m so freaking exhausted i’m gonna call it quits on looking for links for the day. i been so bored with the internet the past few days had me struggling to find content, only to find myself reading espn and looking for of baseball signing rumors.

AND THEN i end up pontificating on stupid shit i don’t really know about and you all muthafuckas could give two shits about. SO instead i preface all of that with some boring shit about my lame day. don’t like baseball? skip to the next bullet point you little shit.

anyway, after all that ranting, i’ll make it quick: ichiro (and his agent) are asking 15 mil. m’s could sign vlad for that. he’s on my shit list if this makes us pick up some no name. if espn is even remotely right about where the top 50 free agents are going (i can’t find a frickin’ link to it anymore), then next season looks bleak for the mariners.

-did you seriously skip that shit? whatever, i don’t give a good goddamn. that new wheat record is weird, man. it’s sounds like jimmy eat world sometimes, and they seriously fuck up “don’t i hold you” with some ill-conceived up beat drum track. zapped the earnestness right out of the fucking song. i instantly started singing to “i met a girl” though, with its spastic breathiness. it’s oh so fucking good. might take some time for the rest, but the fucker might grow on me still.

i’m trying to set a record for curses in one post today. fuckfuckfuckshit. see your monkey asses tomorrow.

There was no architect designed this view

cartoon network has just started selling these hugely expensive packages of cartoon related items, they’re called the ultimate wishlist. included on this list is the dexter’s lab room for 100 grand. sound expensive? it is, but just some of what’s included:

  • Two Lava Lamps
  • Six Colored Resin-Filled Lab Beakers
  • Motorola 2.4 GHz Digital Dual Handset Cordless Telephone
  • Sony 27″ Flat Screen Television
  • Nintendo Game Cube Platinum Edition
  • Sony 500 Watt Home Theater System
  • HP Pavilion Computer with 15″ LCD Monitor
  • Sanyo Platinum Finish 2.5 cu. ft. Mini Fridge

another cool one is the space ghost desk and chair for 40 grand. it includes the sony dream system for sound and a mini-fridge and an lcd tv that pops out of desk.

so if any of ya’ll run into a shitload of money and wanna get me something nice, check out the ultimate list for me. i’d do the same for you!

-comedy central is launching a show that is like queer eye, except not. it’s called straight plan for the gay man and sounds ill-conceived and a lot like something the man-show would think of.

-what a dream it would be to
rid the world of rumsfeld. too bad it’s never gonna happen, because there is always a place for idiots in this world. especially in the government.

-i love how yahoo calls a story about getting a condom in your soup
“soup surprise”. didn’t you suckas know that clam chowder is in the top 3 courses that kitchen staff fuck with? i don’t know the others, but i can tell you i dropped some crazy bread on the floor and served it up once (5 second rule punks!).

-the funniest thing about this article on
portable satellite dishes on SUVs is that the woman considers plopping your kids in front of a tv baby-sitting. i’m down with tv in the car, but damn, man, make ‘em read a book or some shit.

-popular mechanics has a feature on a bunch of motorcycles models for 04, including thisbuell xb12r bike. it’s pretty sick, and looks an awful lot like the cyclone from robotech.

-i caught star wars clone wars short the other day, and felt it was very rushed (at least the first episode), but found it pretty cool that they’re showing one every night this week. no waiting a week for a 3 minute short is a good thing. if you missed it, they have them up on the site.

-i’m pretty disappointed in the mariners new gm already. bavasi said they probably won’t sign any big fish, which probably means they’ll not chase guerrero and get someone that bats .290 in the outfield and hits 7 homeruns a year. he seems to be pretty big on smaller guys that make a difference and lists a few, like olerud, sele, nelson, and rhodes, most of which aren’t even with the team anymore (rhodes is probably going away as a free agent). i’ll give him olerud, but sele was ineffective in the post-season, and nelson and rhodes are relief that the m’s don’t necessarily need anymore judging by the performance last year, they are replaceable.

instead of going for someone that does a decent job at their position, they need offense that is consistent and big. vlad is just that, and he keeps the strength of last season, a solid defensive outfield. with practically everything else running the same as last year, that’s all the team would need to make a run for the pennant. i’d even say they should can put cirillo in at third platooning with bloomquist, and guillen at short. take freddy out to save cost, and promote a starter. the defense would be golden, and the hole in offense with cirillo would be forgiveable because the top of the order would be ichiro, vlad, boone, martinez, and olerud.

buuuut, that’s just me and i reserve the right to be wrong about a game i started liking two years ago.

-i know it’s veterans day today. a few years jason and james drank capfuls of shampoo to celebrate it. i won’t be doing that anytime soon, but encourage everyone to drink shampoo to honor vets. non-toxic, please.

i’m still feeling kinda shitty and am starting to wonder if it’s not just allergies that are bothering me, because my nose feels awful and my throat is itchy as hell. buuuut, it’s time for me to stop complaining.

picked up hey mercedes – loses control, strokes – room on fire, slomo rabbit kick – bass monster lives in the bass forest, wheat – per second, per second…, iron and wine – the sea and rhythm, ted leo – tell balgeary, bulgary is dead, and the lucksmiths – a little distraction. owl got a bunch of stuff too, including the very good cup of sand from superchunk. spent way too much money, but expect a review or two soon.

understand what i’m saying

you know how i know i’ve truly surpassed the line between being a fair-weather baseball fan and a hardcore nerd? it’s when i get excited about the offseason trades and look forward to seeing the m’s make moves to get better. but it’s true, i’m stoked and would fucking love to see the m’s sign kaz matsui or vlad guerrero. better yet, both. i know nothing about the payroll situation and am pretty skeptical of it happening, but i haven’t gotten nerdy enough to know that shit yet. adding two (almost) 30/30 players to the lineup would be ill.

-now that the fall tv season is in full effect, i can get back to filling posts with random tv shite like…

ed this season has been pretty good. michael ian black has been golden, as usual, and the writing has been pretty competent. i’m glad they’re finally doing away with the “will they get together?” crap they drowned in last season and are starting to develop an actual adult relationship between carol and ed. warren is good, he’s such a mini-ed, and mike is starting to get a little depth of his own. what’s really good? burt reynolds as mike’s dad on the 19th.

there’s an archive of 10 dollar bets on the ed site, my favorite:

Episode: Opposites Distract

Ed bets Mike, “Ten bucks if you sing your love to a guy who’s bowling.”

Mike to bowler: “Tonight I celebrate my love for you. It seems like the natural thing to do. Tonight no one’s gonna find us. We’ll leave the world behind us. When I make love to you. Tonight.”

and i miss clem snide as the opening song.

-what’s the deal with the west wing? what’s happening there? i only started watching it again after i skipped a season. josh looks likes he’s in deep doo-doo.

-some really nice artwork at dchiang.com who did some pd work for star wars. he’s collaborated with orson scott card on a new book called robota.

-i hate movieads, too. there’s a website dedicated to lawsuits against theaters that show that shit. stupid cineplexes.

-thank god i freaking get paid tonight at midnight because i’m running on empty.
