an open letter to all those motherfuckers:

man, you’re so gonna get it someday. yeah, you four assholes that broke into my sister’s house and took every piece of electronic equipment; two tvs, two dvd players, 300-disc cd changer, stereo receiver, tivo, laptop, desktop computer, digital camera, the jewelry you snagged, that platinum ring that my sister made, those earrings my mom gave her on her fucking wedding day, and even got a little more petty by taking the stupid wine. this is a hex, and the hex is on you. you’re going to drink that wine and do something stupid. i’m not saying i want it to happen, but i am saying that it will.

you, that bitch whore of a so-called fucking principal that called to transfer ali from her school because she refused to bow down to your bureacratic bullshit rules and self-serving attitude, you’ll get it too. don’t think that neglecting your students and faculty and choosing to focus on getting ahead in your career isn’t going to bite you in the ass in the future. you’ll see, and although i won’t be there to see it, i’m not afraid to admit that i’ll have a good chuckle when i hear that you’re burning in your own personal little hell. i’m going to get high off the fucking fumes.

all right, all right, enough foaming at the mouth. it’s friday, it’s time to let all that shit slide off your back and down through the drain. right now, it’s really 11:59, i’ve got a minute to finish this post and get it done so that i keep with my post a day resolution. i’ve got sleep to catch up on sleep (yeah, you can catch up on sleep, smart-ass), and you’ve got shit to do. so do it. have a good one.

SPACE GHOST: Welcome to my show, Matt! Have you seen it? Do you love it?

MATT GROENING: Oh, yes! I make it a habit of watching all shows that rhyme. “Space Ghost Coast to Coast”, of course. “Dennis the Menace”, “I Spy”…

ZORAK: “Mod Squad”!

MATT GROENING: “Magilla Gorilla”.

ZORAK: “Care Bears”.

MATT GROENING: “Prime Time Live”, sorta
rhymes.

there are gods in the dvd world, and they are smiling on us on a consistent monthly basis, mostly on tuesdays. first newsradio gets the green light, and now, yes, folks, if you caught adult swim a couple nights ago, you know that space ghost is coming to dvd. i checked out the site just now, and found mad transcripts and video clips, some of my favorite include:

so save up the hard earned cash and get ready to shell it out like the media slave you are.

this is one of the few shows that my little brother got paid for (aside from a good few that bought us gas money when we went on tour), i think perhaps the first time we ever got paid, and it surprised the hell out of us. granted, i don’t remember how much it was, but i think it was enough to cover dinner and gas. the show was originally set to take place outside, but it was cold and windy outside, and we ended up playing in the commons area of some dorm at whitman. wow, it was such a long time ago, but i found a track from silver surfer up over at catbirdseat for the may mix, and found their website.

thank god the p’zone is back, but where the hell did tommy davidson go? P’ZONE! yeah, well, remember those commercials “where’d the cheese go? where’s the cheese at?!” no? whatever, that’s fine and fuckin’ dandy, but these are funny little spots that the galactic heroes recorded (maybe) for the commercials, though i’m not really sure if they were joking or not. either way, still funny.

i know i’ve been a little leo-crazy and have gotten mixed reactions from people, but i was looking around for any mp3’s from ted leo, simply because during lunch i wanted something to listen to, and i found quite a few, most of which are from epitonic, which i’m not sure will support links direct to source, but visit the site anyways because they have a ton of good stuff up there. this is the first of a few of tlp tracks.
come baby come

another from indiepages, the salteens have a new album out on drive-in records, and this is not on it, but i imagine the album is full of like-minded pop-goodness.

the built to spill show was actually pretty good, and the only boring part was during the first few moments of opening bands, which were mediocre at best. the solace brothers and draw, the former from arizona and the latter boise. the venue was a bust, too much vibe for my tastes, but goddamn if i wasn’t hazy eyed with dementia from all those songs from there’s nothing wrong with love that they played. scotty looks like he’s getting better on the chops, too, showing some nice improv fills. doug definitely cut down on the self-indulgent wank time, though i imagine it had something to do with him being sick or something. he missed a couple of notes and his voice sounded kind of hoarse. overall, it was a good time because it’s been so long since i’ve seen them.

diagnosis: go out and see them, but try not to pay to exorbitant of a price, and skip the first few, unless you’ve got some people to share drinks and conversation with.

had a good long weekend. ate out a lot, hung out with ali’s parents. good times all around. i can’t say it’s good to be back at work.

damn, i just realized that all the links that i had collected for the playlist this week are on my computer at work (an all found on other people’s servers playlist), so sorry, nothing today, but since you’ll see this monday tuesday, just look for the playlist to pop up sometime tuesday, too. long weekend folks, enjoy it.

i do, however, find some good news on the touring front– i just picked up a copy of the the new lucksmiths album, which should be arriving in the mail hopefully sometime soon, and i also found out that they are going on tour soon, meaning july and august and meaning in the states, so look for them soon, check the site for dates though venues do not seem to be solidified as of yet.

also, according to the desoto site, in english (the band, a 5 piece composed of members of the promise ring and the dismemberment plan) should be in the studio with j. robbins right now, so keep looking back at their site for a completion and release date.

with time at a minimum, i will provide you with just one thing for today, and that’s a musician that is protected under the riaa (probably because they’re on WB), but it’s still a good song, and still apropos, seeing as i’m going to see them on saturday night (though i still stand by my contention that they are boring live):

i ran into a bunch of links about this documentary on blogging that chuck olsen is working on. you can watch the trailer here, and you see a few blogging superstars in there, including haughey and kottke as well as seth from thinkabout.org, who, if you look around enough, has got a little something to say on nietzsche, fox news, and npr. i know i never got around to talking about nietzsche back here, but once you can begin to grasp the ideas and the inimitable sacrifice to complete atheism (as opposed to kierkegaard’s complete christianity), you start to realize what a devoted and brilliant philosopher he is. but anyways, nevermind.

so yeah, the blog movie had a precursor, something done by pbs, which i haven’t actually had a chance to look at much, but i do see that glenn reynolds does make an appearance. they have a
clip of it over at the site.

also, the “blogumentary,” a term i’m a bit uncomfortable with, is also an ambitious piece of “open source documentary,” and they are asking for donations and trying to put it all out for free. check out the site at blogumentary.org.

addendum: for those that are hitting this thanks to the link from thinkabout.org, i have to be honest, i didn’t actually mean to mention seth as a “superstar” on the level of kottke and haughey, (but that’s what i get for not proofreading) and i only heard of the page because of the blogumentary (though that shouldn’t stop you from following the link over there– it’s still a good read). if that doc gets any more distribution though, i will rescind my rescinding of “superstar,” because, you know, i have the control over these kinds of things, labels and shit. in any case, it’s bringing us all some traffic, isn’t it?
